My take on the Foonf

The Foonf suits a family that wants long rear-facing use in a 16.9 in wide seat and a rigid LATCH install once it faces forward. The trade-off is weight: Clek lists 38 lb rear-facing, and the rear-facing base and anti-rebound bar are both required. The Fllo has the same child limits but is lighter, uses a LATCH belt both ways, and makes the anti-rebound bar optional.

Who the Foonf fits

This seat covers 2 stages, and a child has to meet every limit of the stage they are in. Clek gives it a 9-year life from the date of manufacture, so check the date label before using a hand-me-down.

How the Foonf installs

Rigid LATCH: Rigid LATCH (forward-facing). Rigid connectors click straight onto the vehicle's lower anchor bars, which removes the strap slack that causes loose installs.
Belt lock-off: Rear-facing lock-offs. A lock-off clamps the vehicle belt so you do not have to switch the belt's retractor into its locked mode.
Harness: 6 harness heights. Check the harness height at each growth spurt: at or below the shoulders rear-facing, at or above them forward-facing.

Every install is a fit between one seat and one vehicle. Read both manuals, and use a free inspection station if anything is unclear.

Will it fit your car?

At 16.9 in at its widest, this seat is one of the narrower ones in its class and is a candidate for three across in many mid-size cars. It weighs 38 lb, which matters if you will move it between cars or carry it through an airport.

Check your vehicle manual for lower anchor positions and any head-restraint rules.

The outlet listing "foonf - clearance" (Date of Manufacture: 2026, final sale) states forward-facing weight 22-65 lb; the main Foonf page and the US manual dated October 2025 state 26.5-65 lb.

What to know before you live with it

Rear-facing installation

Rear-facing, the manual says the seat must never be used without its rear-facing base and anti-rebound bar. It installs with the lower anchor belt up to a child weight of 25 lb, and with the vehicle belt for anything heavier. The seat cushion comes off for installation, the belt runs through the blue rear-facing belt path, and both rear-facing lock-offs are closed over it. Rear-facing uses recline position 2 or 3. Use stops at 50 lb, 43 in, or when the head is less than 1 in from the top of the headrest at its highest setting.

Forward-facing rules and the top tether

Forward-facing, the rigid LATCH connectors with the top tether cover 26.5 to 35 lb. Above 35 lb, the manual requires rigid LATCH plus vehicle belt plus tether, or vehicle belt plus tether. The tether is always required with rigid LATCH. With a vehicle belt and no tether anchor available, only recline position 2 is allowed, and a child under 40 lb needs the shorter harness length. Otherwise forward-facing uses position 1 or 2, never 3. Use stops at 65 lb, when the shoulders pass the top harness slots, or when the ears pass the top of the headrest.

Size, weight and what is in the box

Clek lists the seat at 16.9 in wide with a 13 in base width. Rear-facing it measures 33 in front to back and 25.5 to 28.5 in tall, and weighs 38 lb. Forward-facing it is 28 to 32.5 in tall and weighs 33 lb. The harness has 6 heights with slots from 8 to 17 in. The box includes the anti-rebound bar and the rear-facing base. The infant-thingy, sold separately, lets the seat fit a child of 5 lb and 19 in.

Is the Foonf recalled?

21C005000: covers this model. Campaign 21C005000 covers Foonf model numbers FO12 through FO19 made December 3, 2012 to May 20, 2021 (loose EPP foam). This Foonf carries FO19U1 model numbers, so seats from that build window are inside the recall; Clek corrected production on May 21, 2021. Campaign source (read October 7, 2026).

How long can a child ride rear-facing in the Clek Foonf?

Until they pass 50 lb or 43 in, or their head is less than 1 in from the top of the headrest at its highest position. The manual also requires rear-facing for an infant less than 1 year old and weighing less than 26.5 lb.

Can I take the Clek Foonf on a plane?

Yes. The manual certifies it for aircraft. Forward-facing, the aircraft belt goes through the forward-facing belt path and the tether stays stored. Rear-facing, the rear-facing base and anti-rebound bar must be used. A checked seat must travel in a Clek Weelee bag.

When can I use LATCH with the Foonf?

Rear-facing, the lower anchor belt is allowed up to 25 lb. Forward-facing, rigid LATCH with the top tether is allowed up to 35 lb, and rigid LATCH can stay on with the vehicle belt and tether up to 65 lb.

When does the Clek Foonf expire?

The manual says not to use it after 9 years from the date of manufacture, which is printed on a label on the back of the seat, or after a crash of any kind.

What is the difference between the Clek Foonf and Fllo?

Clek lists the Fllo with the same rear-facing and forward-facing limits. Its seat weight is 25 lb (28 lb with the anti-rebound bar) and it measures 32.5 in front to back rear-facing. It installs with flexible LATCH or a seat belt in both directions, where the Foonf uses rigid LATCH forward-facing.
