Which convertible car seat is best?

There is no single best seat: the right one is the seat that fits your child, your car and the way you use it. What I can give you is the extremes of the published numbers, so you know which model leads on each one before you shortlist. These come from the manufacturers’ own specifications, checked on September 17, 2026. Nothing here is tested or scored by this site.

Which is the best convertible car seat?

The one that fits your child, your car and your budget. Compare the rear-facing weight and height limits, the front-to-back space the seat needs at its required recline, and the width if you need three across. The standouts above show which models lead on each of those numbers.

When should you switch to forward-facing?

NHTSA recommends keeping a child rear-facing as long as possible within the manufacturer’s height and weight limits. A permitted minimum age for forward-facing is not a recommendation to switch at that age.

Is a convertible the same as an all-in-one?

A convertible has rear-facing and forward-facing harness modes. An all-in-one adds a booster mode. Check the actual manual: more modes do not guarantee every mode will fit your child or your car well.
