Who is the Disney Baby EverSlim 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat for?

The Disney Baby EverSlim 4-in-1 (CC420) is a four-mode seat. Its manual lists rear-facing 5 to 40 lb and 19 to 40 in., forward-facing 30 to 65 lb and 34.4 to 49 in., high-back booster 40 to 100 lb and 43.4 to 52 in., and backless booster 40 to 100 lb and 43.4 to 57 in. Expiry: 10 years.

Reasons to consider it

  • Four modes, with the backless booster rated to 57 in. in the manual
  • A 5-position recline with a small window on each side showing the current position
  • A SecureTech magnetic chest clip with a red-to-green indicator
  • Certified for aircraft use with the internal harness

Things to weigh up

  • Forward-facing, the lower anchors cannot be used for a child over 45 lb
  • The magnetic chest clip must not be used with children who have an implanted electronic medical device; Safety 1st offers a non-magnetic clip free
  • The product page gives 43.4 to 52 in. for the backless booster, while the manual gives 43.4 to 57 in.
  • Safety 1st does not publish the seat's width or weight

My take on the Disney Baby EverSlim 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat

It suits a Disney fan who wants one seat that ends as a backless booster. The main trade-off is the lower anchor limit: forward-facing, the manual allows the LATCH belt only up to a 45 lb child, after which the vehicle belt and tether take over. The plain EverSlim 4-in-1 lists the same mode limits on its page, but it links no manual, so details such as its lower anchor limit are not published.

Who the Disney Baby EverSlim 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat fits

This seat covers 4 stages, and a child has to meet every limit of the stage they are in. Safety 1st gives it a 10-year life from the date of manufacture, so check the date label before using a hand-me-down.

Rear-facing harness5 to 40 lb · 19 to 40 in
The child faces the back of the car, which keeps the head, neck and spine supported in a frontal crash. Keep this mode as long as the child fits it.
Forward-facing harness30 to 65 lb · 34.4 to 49 in
The child faces forward in the seat’s own harness. Use the top tether every time, and stay in the harness until the child outgrows it.
Belt-positioning booster (high-back)40 to 100 lb · 43.4 to 52 in
The seat’s own back and belt guide route the vehicle belt across the shoulder, and the sides give the child something to lean on when they sleep.
Backless booster40 to 100 lb · 43.4 to 57 in
Only the base is left, so the vehicle seat has to support the child’s back and head, and the belt guide sits at the hip.

How the Disney Baby EverSlim 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat installs

Recline
5-position recline base. The recline angle is what keeps a young baby’s airway open, so set it before tightening the install.
Harness
10-position no-rethread headrest/harness. Check the harness height at each growth spurt: at or below the shoulders rear-facing, at or above them forward-facing.

Every install is a fit between one seat and one vehicle. Read both manuals, and use a free inspection station if anything is unclear.

Will it fit your car?

Safety 1st does not publish a width for this seat, so measure your back seat and compare it with the seat in a store before buying.

  • Check your vehicle manual for lower anchor positions and any head-restraint rules.
  • Rear-facing seats need front-seat room: try the install behind the driver before you commit.
  • Certified for aircraft use, so it can travel as a seat rather than checked baggage.

Where Safety 1st’s page and manual disagree

  • Product page: belt-positioning booster and backless booster 40-100 lb, 43.4-52 in; Manual: Backless booster 40-100 lb and 43.4-57 in

When they differ, follow the manual and the labels on your seat.

What to know before you live with it

Recline positions and rear-facing level lines

The seat has 5 recline positions, and a small window on each side shows which one is set (at fully reclined Position 5 the number is hidden). Position 1 must not be used rear-facing. For a child 5 to 30 lb and 19 to 34.3 in., the bottom level line must be parallel with the ground using Positions 5 to 2. For 30 to 40 lb and 34.4 to 40 in., and only if the child can sit up unassisted, the top level line applies using Positions 4 to 2. Forward-facing and booster modes use Position 1, fully upright. Rear-facing in a side position, the seat must touch the seat in front or be as close as possible.

Forward-facing anchors and tether

Forward-facing with the harness covers 30 to 65 lb and 34.4 to 49 in. The manual says not to use the lower anchors for a child over 45 lb (20 kg); above that, the vehicle belt must be used. When the vehicle has a tether anchor, the tether must always be attached, adjusted and secured in forward-facing harness mode. The LATCH belt and the vehicle belt are never used together. Rear-facing, the tether is not used. Whichever method you use, the manual says the seat must stay secured to the vehicle even when no child is in it.

Converting to the backless booster

Before booster use, the head pillow, body pillow and harness covers come off and the harness system is stored. To separate the backless booster, squeeze both release levers under the seat pad and pull it out of the main seat. Backless, the vehicle seat back must be upright and the child's ears must never be above the top of the vehicle seat back or headrest. The lap belt runs under both armrests, and the shoulder belt goes under the armrest on the buckle side. A shoulder belt-positioning clip is for backless mode only. The manual notes that a backless booster has no back or headrest, so any added protection depends on the vehicle.

Cleaning and accessories

Machine wash the pad and accessories separately in cold water on a gentle cycle, with the harness covers closed so the fastening strips are not exposed. Do not use bleach. Tumble dry separately for 10 to 12 minutes on low heat and remove right away. Harness straps are spot cleaned with warm sudsy water and checked often for wear. The cup holder posts push into the ends of the armrests and are top-rack dishwasher safe. The harness covers are optional in rear-facing and forward-facing mode and come off by undoing their fasteners.

Answers refer to the model and manual version on this page. Check the instructions supplied with your seat.

Before you buy

  1. Weigh and measure your child. The limits above are the manufacturer’s, and a child has to meet all of them for the mode they will use.
  2. Confirm the exact version. Colors, retail exclusives and model numbers change limits more often than you would expect.
  3. Read the manual before you buy, not after. It is linked above and holds the fit rules, the install methods and the expiry.
  4. Check recalls by model number and date of manufacture, and register the seat with Safety 1st so you hear about the next one.
