Rear-facing, the seat uses one of 4 rear-facing recline positions, set with the handle on the front. On level ground, a ball entirely in light blue is level for infants 0+ months, and light and dark blue together is level for a child 3+ months. To keep a child rear-facing longer, squeeze the adjustment handle and pull the extension panel out to one of its 4 positions. Route the lower anchor attachment or vehicle belt through the blue-labelled belt path, and do not use the lower anchors for a child over 45 lb. Harness straps sit even with or just below the shoulders.
The manual sets rules by weight. From 22 to 40 lb, use recline position 4; over 40 lb, use position 5 or 6. The crotch strap goes in the front-most slot, the belt goes through the orange-labelled forward-facing path, and the lower anchors are not for a child over 45 lb. The tether is used in addition to the lower anchors or belt. Do not use the extension panel forward-facing. Harness straps sit even with or just above the shoulders, with the chest clip at armpit level, and the seat should move no more than 1 in at the belt path.
The manual says the seat is certified for aircraft use on forward-facing aircraft seats, installed with the lap belt, and without the tether when forward-facing. Contact the airline about its policy. To clean, remove the pad from the shell, machine wash it in cold water on a delicate cycle and drip-dry, without bleach. When refitting it, rethread the harness straps over the metal bar. The harness, lower anchor and tether straps are surface wash only. Stop using the seat and throw it away 10 years after the date of manufacture, shown on a sticker on the back.
