My take on the 4Ever 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat featuring TrueShield Technology

It suits a family that wants the 4Ever range with Graco's TrueShield bolster, a part the manual labels on the seat without describing what it does, so I make no crash-safety claim from it. Graco lists it at 21.5 in wide and 24 lb, close to the 4Ever DLX. One point to settle before buying: the product page lists a 22 lb forward-facing minimum, while the manual lists 26.5 lb and says children under 26.5 lb must ride rear-facing. I would follow the manual.

Who the 4Ever 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat featuring TrueShield Technology fits

This seat covers 4 stages, and a child has to meet every limit of the stage they are in. Graco gives it a 10-year life from the date of manufacture, so check the date label before using a hand-me-down.

Rear-facing harness4 to 40 lb
The child faces the back of the car, which keeps the head, neck and spine supported in a frontal crash. Keep this mode as long as the child fits it.
Forward-facing harness22 to 65 lb · Up to 49 in
The child faces forward in the seat’s own harness. Use the top tether every time, and stay in the harness until the child outgrows it.
High-back booster40 to 100 lb · 43 to 57 in · from 4 years
The seat’s own back and belt guide route the vehicle belt across the shoulder, and the sides give the child something to lean on when they sleep.
Backless booster40 to 120 lb · 43 to 57 in · from 4 years
Only the base is left, so the vehicle seat has to support the child’s back and head, and the belt guide sits at the hip.

How the 4Ever 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat featuring TrueShield Technology installs

Lower anchors
InRight LATCH. Check your vehicle manual for which seating positions have anchors, and switch to the seat belt once the child passes the anchor weight limit in the manual.
Recline
6 recline positions. The recline angle is what keeps a young baby’s airway open, so set it before tightening the install.

Every install is a fit between one seat and one vehicle. Read both manuals, and use a free inspection station if anything is unclear.

Will it fit your car?

At 21.5 in at its widest, measure your back seat before counting on three across. It weighs 24 lb, which matters if you will move it between cars or carry it through an airport.

  • Check your vehicle manual for lower anchor positions and any head-restraint rules.
  • Rear-facing seats need front-seat room: try the install behind the driver before you commit.
  • Aircraft certification is printed on the seat’s own label; check before you fly.

What to know before you live with it

Installation

Rear-facing uses recline position 1, 2 or 3 and the belt path with the blue label, with either the lower anchor strap or the vehicle belt. The lower anchor connectors fit vehicles with 11 in (28 cm) anchor spacing. Forward-facing uses position 4 or 5 for children 40 lb or less and position 6 above 40 lb, with the tether. LATCH is not used forward-facing for a child over 45 lb. For a forward-facing belt install, the lap and shoulder belt can both go under the built-in lock-off. Without it, you lock the vehicle belt at its retractor.

Harness height and infant supports

Rear-facing, the harness straps sit at or just below the shoulders, and the top of the head must be at least 1 in below the red headrest and harness adjustment handle. Forward-facing, the straps sit just above the shoulders and the ears must be below the top of the headrest. One lever raises the headrest and harness together. The infant head support and body support are rear-facing only, for children 20 lb or less, and must be used if the shoulders are below the lowest harness setting. Harness covers must not stop the chest clip sitting at armpit level.

Booster modes and cleaning

Graco calls the high-back mode a backed booster. Both booster modes need a child 43 to 57 in tall and at least 4 years old: 40 to 100 lb backed and 40 to 120 lb backless, always with the vehicle lap and shoulder belt. The headrest pad unsnaps from the shell, and the seat pad comes off with elastic straps, snaps and a plastic armrest tab. Both machine wash cold on a delicate cycle and drip-dry, with no bleach. The buckle is rinsed in warm water without soap. Harness, lower anchor and tether straps are surface washed only.

Before you buy

  1. Weigh and measure your child. The limits above are the manufacturer’s, and a child has to meet all of them for the mode they will use.
  2. Confirm the exact version. Colors, retail exclusives and model numbers change limits more often than you would expect.
  3. Read the manual before you buy, not after. It is linked above and holds the fit rules, the install methods and the expiry.
  4. Check recalls by model number and date of manufacture, and register the seat with Graco so you hear about the next one.
