My take on the Romi 2-in-1 Convertible Car Seat
The Romi suits travel and second-car use, where a light seat matters more than adjustment features. Maxi-Cosi describes it as just over 9 lbs., and the tether doubles as a carrying strap. The trade-offs are a lower forward-facing limit (50 lb and 44 in., against 65 lb and 49 in. on the Petra and Pria), no booster mode, no recline positions and a harness you rethread by hand.

Who the Romi 2-in-1 Convertible Car Seat fits
This seat covers 2 stages, and a child has to meet every limit of the stage they are in. Maxi-Cosi gives it a 10-year life from the date of manufacture, so check the date label before using a hand-me-down.
Rear-facing harness5 to 40 lb · 19 to 40 in
The child faces the back of the car, which keeps the head, neck and spine supported in a frontal crash. Keep this mode as long as the child fits it.
Forward-facing harness30 to 50 lb · 34.4 to 44 in
The child faces forward in the seat’s own harness. Use the top tether every time, and stay in the harness until the child outgrows it.

How the Romi 2-in-1 Convertible Car Seat installs
Lower anchors
1-click LATCH. Check your vehicle manual for which seating positions have anchors, and switch to the seat belt once the child passes the anchor weight limit in the manual.
Recline
No recline positions listed. The recline angle is what keeps a young baby’s airway open, so set it before tightening the install.
Harness
Adjustable harness (rethread). Check the harness height at each growth spurt: at or below the shoulders rear-facing, at or above them forward-facing.
Every install is a fit between one seat and one vehicle. Read both manuals, and use a free inspection station if anything is unclear.
Will it fit your car?
Maxi-Cosi does not publish a width for this seat, so measure your back seat and compare it with the seat in a store before buying. It weighs 9.2 lb, which matters if you will move it between cars or carry it through an airport.
Check your vehicle manual for lower anchor positions and any head-restraint rules.
Rear-facing seats need front-seat room: try the install behind the driver before you commit.
Certified for aircraft use, so it can travel as a seat rather than checked baggage.

What to know before you live with it
Getting the rear-facing angle without a recline
The Romi manual has no recline section, so the angle comes from the install. The manual uses two level lines. For a child of 5 to 30 lb and 19 to 34.3 in., the bottom level line must be parallel with the ground. For 30 to 40 lb and 34.4 to 40 in. and sitting up unassisted, the top line applies. Only if necessary, you may place tightly rolled towels or foam pool noodles under the front of the seat, and check the padding often.
There is no QuikFit headrest here. To change harness height, the manual has you fully loosen the straps, unhook the strap loops from the splitter plate at the back, pull the straps out of the shoulder slots and rethread them into the right slots. The sewn ends must face you and the straps must not twist. Rear-facing, the straps sit at or slightly below the shoulders; forward-facing, at or slightly above. For a small baby, the manual has a separate section on adjusting the buckle and strap length.
The manual says the Romi is certified for aircraft use, and there is an airplane certification label on the side of the seat that some airlines may ask to see. On a plane, install it in a window seat, use only forward-facing aircraft seats, and ask for a belt extender if the lap belt is short. Forward-facing on a plane, you follow the forward-facing install steps but skip the tether steps, and you must store the lower anchor belt and tether.
No campaign in the current NHTSA child-restraint data names this model family, and I have not run a separate review for it. Check your seat’s model number and date of manufacture before use.
Romi 2-in-1 Convertible Car Seat: common questions
What are the Maxi-Cosi Romi's limits?
Rear-facing, 5 to 40 lb and 19 to 40 in. Forward-facing, 30 to 50 lb and 34.4 to 44 in. The child outgrows each mode on reaching any one limit or failing the fit requirements.
The product page describes it as just over 9 lbs., but its specification list shows a product weight of 13.5 lbs. I would confirm with Maxi-Cosi if the exact figure matters.
No. It has only rear-facing and forward-facing harness modes, ending at 50 lb and 44 in. The Pria, by contrast, adds a booster mode for 40 to 100 lb and 43.4 to 52 in.
The manual says the Romi is certified for aircraft use, with an airplane certification label on the side of the seat. Airlines may ask to see that label.
Machine wash the pad separately in cold water on a gentle cycle and tumble dry separately for 10 to 12 minutes on low heat. Taking the pad off involves unthreading the chest clip, buckle and harness straps, and the manual says not to use the seat without its pad.
