Who the EXEC next all-in-one car seat fits

This seat covers 3 stages, and a child has to meet every limit of the stage they are in. Nuna gives it a 10-year life from the date of manufacture, so check the date label before using a hand-me-down.

How the EXEC next all-in-one car seat installs

Belt lock-off: True tension doors (belt lock-off). A lock-off clamps the vehicle belt so you do not have to switch the belt's retractor into its locked mode.
Lower anchors: Push-on lower anchor connectors. Check your vehicle manual for which seating positions have anchors, and switch to the seat belt once the child passes the anchor weight limit in the manual.
Recline: 4 rear-facing and 4 forward-facing recline positions. The recline angle is what keeps a young baby’s airway open, so set it before tightening the install.
Harness: No-rethread 5-point harness (stores for booster). Check the harness height at each growth spurt: at or below the shoulders rear-facing, at or above them forward-facing.

Every install is a fit between one seat and one vehicle. Read both manuals, and use a free inspection station if anything is unclear.

What to know before you live with it

Three modes, three sets of rules

Rear-facing, the leg rest must be fully extended and upright, angled to match the vehicle seat back, and it serves as the anti-rebound panel. The tether is never used rear-facing. Forward-facing with the harness, the tether must always be used, and without it only recline position 1 is allowed. As a booster, the harness is stored, the tether is never used, and the lower anchor attachment is the preferred way to keep the seat secured, even when empty. Without it, the empty booster must be buckled in with the vehicle belt. Vehicle lap-only belts cannot be used in any mode, and in booster mode the child must be in a lap and shoulder belt.

Recline and the leg rest

There are 4 recline positions per mode: blue for rear-facing from 5 to 50 lb, red for tethered forward-facing from 30 to 65 lb, and purple for booster use from 40 to 110 lb. The manual says that to change recline after installation, you must uninstall, select the new position and reinstall. Forward-facing and in booster mode, the leg rest must not sit above the seating surface. In booster mode without lower anchors, it must be minimally extended and angled down so a child cannot step on it and tip the seat.

Inserts, harness storage and cleaning

The infant insert is for 5 to 11 lb only. The SIP insert must be used up to 40 lb, then can come out when the child no longer fits between its sides. For booster mode, the straps slide under a storage cover and the buckle goes in the lower anchor compartment. The seat cover, leg rest slip cover, harness pads and inserts are washed by the tag; the SIP insert pads and infant support wedge are spot clean only. The manual says never to steam or pressure wash the shell or harness.

EXEC next or RAVA next

Nuna's RAVA next page lists rear-facing use with the seat belt at 5 to 50 lb, with the lower anchor belt at 5 to 35 lb, and 18 to 49 in. Forward-facing is 30 to 65 lb with the seat belt, 30 to 40 lb with the lower anchor belt, and 34 to 49 in. It lists a weight of 26.5 lb and only rear-facing and forward-facing modes, so a separate booster comes later.

Is the EXEC next all-in-one car seat recalled?

Can the EXEC next be used on an airplane?

Yes, in harnessed modes only. It is not certified for aircraft as a booster, because aircraft belts are lap belts only. Rear-facing on an aircraft the leg rest cannot be extended, and forward-facing it must be in recline position 1.
