6 recline positions. The recline angle is what keeps a young baby’s airway open, so set it before tightening the install.

What to know before you live with it

The three modes and their limits

Rear-facing, the harness covers 4 to 50 lb and 17 to 48 in, and the top of the head must be at least 1 in below the top of the headrest. Evenflo gives an age range of 0-4 years for this mode. Forward-facing with the harness covers 30 to 65 lb and 35 to 49 in, with the tops of the ears at or below the top of the headrest, and an age range of 2-6 years. As a high-back booster it takes children 40 to 100 lb and 44 to 57 in, again with the ears at or below the booster headrest. There is no backless booster mode.

Recline, headrest and installation access

Evenflo describes 6 recline positions and a 14-position headrest that moves the harness without rethreading, both adjusted with one hand. The seat pad has built-in access to the belt path. The page names L.I.F.E.GUARD side-impact technology and says the seat meets the federal standards, including 213a and 213b. What the page does not give is the installation itself: which belt paths serve which mode, how LATCH is used, and when the tether is required. I would read the manual that comes in the box before the first install, and check the labels on the shell.

Washing the pad and the buckle

The page says to machine wash the seat pad separately in cold water on a delicate cycle, then tumble dry 10 to 15 minutes on low heat. The harness is wiped with mild soap and water and left to air dry, and it must not be submerged. For the crotch buckle, Evenflo says to place it in a cup of warm water, move it back and forth and press the red button several times. Do not use soap, detergent or lubricant on the buckle. Plastic and metal parts are wiped with mild soap and water. The two cup holders unfasten and are dishwasher-safe.
