What to know before you live with it
The MaxiLock base
One release lever on the base does two jobs. Lifting it opens the vehicle belt lockoff and releases the LATCH lower anchor belts; pushing it down closes the lockoff and lets the lower anchor belts retract. The base adjusts with a handle at the back that sets the base foot position, and the horizontal part of the angle indicator turns completely green when the angle is right, with no red showing. Never use LATCH and the vehicle belt together.

The load leg question
The manual describes the load leg as stored under the base and available on select models. When fitted, fold it out, squeeze the buttons and lower it to the vehicle floor, then lift the front of the base to lock it, perpendicular to the floor. Do not use it on top of a storage compartment or if it does not reach the floor. Because Maxi-Cosi's product page and comparison chart disagree, I would confirm a load leg is in the box before paying extra for it.

Fit checks and harness height
The top of the child's head must be at least 1 inch below the top of the car seat. The harness straps must be at the shoulder or slightly below, never above, and the buckle goes in the slot closest to the child. Changing harness height means unhooking the straps from the splitter plate and rethreading them, with the pad slots lined up with the shell slots. Head and lumbar inserts are removable.
