Who is the LiteMax NXT Infant Car Seat with SensorSafe for?

The LiteMax NXT with SensorSafe is a rear-facing infant car seat for babies from 3 to 30 lb and 15.7 to 32 in, with at least 1 in of shell above the head. The 8.6 lb carrier uses a LATCH or seat-belt base with a LockStrong arm, or belts in alone. Expiry is printed on the label.

Reasons to consider it

  • Babies from 3 lb, with the infant insert required from 3 to 6 lb
  • A no-rethread harness that moves with the headrest
  • SensorSafe alerts for temperature, an unattended child, time buckled and the chest clip opening
  • Carrier-only installation with a lap or lap-shoulder belt

Things to weigh up

  • Evenflo's page says 7-position headrest; the manual describes eight locked positions
  • No expiry years published, only a date on the label
  • The SafeZone load leg is an accessory sold separately
  • The handle has two locked positions, Carry and Storage

My take on the LiteMax NXT Infant Car Seat with SensorSafe

This is the LiteMax NXT without the light-and-sound handle: a no-rethread harness, a SensorSafe chest clip that talks to a phone app, and a base with a recline foot and LockStrong arm. It suits parents who want the app alerts but not SensorySoothe. The main listed difference from the SensorySoothe version is the handle, since Evenflo lists the same limits, weight and width for both.

How the LiteMax NXT Infant Car Seat with SensorSafe installs

Harness
No-rethread harness. Check the harness height at each growth spurt: at or below the shoulders rear-facing, at or above them forward-facing.

Every install is a fit between one seat and one vehicle. Read both manuals, and use a free inspection station if anything is unclear.

Will it fit your car?

At 17.83 in at its widest, measure your back seat before counting on three across. It weighs 8.6 lb, which matters if you will move it between cars or carry it through an airport.

  • Check your vehicle manual for lower anchor positions and any head-restraint rules.
  • Rear-facing seats need front-seat room: try the install behind the driver before you commit.
  • Certified for aircraft use, so it can travel as a seat rather than checked baggage.

What to know before you live with it

Installing the base

Park on level ground. For LATCH, take the connectors from their storage under the base, set the 4-position recline foot until the indicator is green, open the LockStrong arm, clip on and tighten while pushing down with your full weight, then close the arm until it clicks and the lock indicator turns green. Spare strap goes back through the belt path opening, not under the arm. For a seat belt, store the connectors, route the belt through the side openings under the belt-guide hooks, buckle, tighten and close the arm. The manual says not to use LATCH and the seat belt together, and the base may not move more than 1 in at the belt path.

Using the carrier without the base

The carrier can be installed with only the vehicle belt. A lap belt runs through the belt guides on the carrier. With a lap-shoulder belt, the lap part goes through the guides and the shoulder belt wraps around the back of the shell into the rear shoulder belt guide. The belt must be locked, and the manual says to use a locking clip if it does not lock. The level line on the shell must be level with the ground, and a rolled towel or small blanket may go under the front edge so the baby's head lies back. The handle must be in a locked position.

What SensorSafe does and does not do

The chest clip pairs with the SensorSafe mobile app and, per the manual, alerts your phone to four conditions: unexpected chest clip unbuckling, a car that is too hot or too cold, a child left unattended, and a child seated too long. It is still a chest clip, so it sits centered at armpit level and clicks together like the standard clip. The alerts do not replace checking the harness each ride. The manual's checklist still asks for straps at or below the shoulders, both buckle tongues fastened and a harness snug enough that you cannot pinch it.

Before you buy

  1. Weigh and measure your child. The limits above are the manufacturer’s, and a child has to meet all of them for the mode they will use.
  2. Confirm the exact version. Colors, retail exclusives and model numbers change limits more often than you would expect; Evenflo lists 2 colors of this seat.
  3. Read the manual before you buy, not after. It is linked above and holds the fit rules, the install methods and the expiry.
  4. Check recalls by model number and date of manufacture, and register the seat with Evenflo so you hear about the next one.
