What to know before you live with it

Installing the base

The manual starts with the level line on the base parallel to the vehicle floor. For lower anchors, route the hooks through the strap openings, attach them to the anchor bars and pull hard to check, then push the base down with your full weight while pulling the strap tight. For a seat belt, route it through the openings, buckle and lock it. In the seat belt steps, if the level line is not level, the manual says to uninstall the base and place a tightly rolled towel or small blanket under its front edge, then reinstall. Never use LATCH and the seat belt together, and the base may not move more than 1 in.

Clicking the carrier in and the handle positions

To attach the carrier, tilt its front down so the U-shaped guide goes under the hook on the base, then rotate the seat down. Plungers disappear into the base and reappear in windows when locked, and the manual says they must be visible. Lift the head end to check. The handle has three positions: 1 for carrying and travel, 2 a safety position never used for carrying or travel, and 3 for travel or taking the baby out, never for carrying.

Without the base, and in aircraft

The carrier can be installed rear-facing with the vehicle belt alone, locked, with the level line on the carrier level with the ground. The manual also shows a carrier-only lower anchor installation, marked as a feature not available on all models, so check whether your carrier has those connectors. Aircraft use is certified only without the base. On the plane, the carrier goes rear-facing on a fully upright seat, with the aircraft belt through the carrier's belt slots and the level line level with the floor. A second base for another car carries part number 6401000.

Is the NurtureMax Infant Car Seat recalled?

How do I wash the NurtureMax?

The manual says to machine wash the seat pad separately in cold water on a delicate cycle and tumble dry for 10 to 15 minutes on low heat. The harness is wiped with mild soap and water and air dried.
