What to know before you live with it
Installing the base or the carrier alone
The base installs with its Quick Connect lower anchor connectors or with a lap or lap-shoulder belt routed through the side openings and under the hooks on the belt guides. Either way, set the 4-position recline foot until the indicator is completely green, then close the LockStrong arm until it clicks and its lock indicator turns green. The manual says never to lay any part of the vehicle belt over the LockStrong arm. Without the base, the lap belt goes through the carrier's belt guides and the shoulder belt wraps around the back into the rear guide, and the level line must be level with the ground. Neither method may move more than 1 in at the belt path.

What the SensorySoothe handle does
The handle has three locked positions: Viewing, Carry and Storage. The manual says it plays lights and sounds in the travel position and must be in a locked position whenever the seat is in a vehicle. Pressing any button turns it on and cycles presets, and pressing and holding turns it off. White Noise, Nightlight or both together play until the end of the drive; other presets turn off after 15 minutes. Custom scenes come from the Evenflo app. The manual's FCC section names the module SensorySoothe 1.0. Evenflo's product page lists batteries as included and required.

Harness, headrest and fit adjustments
The no-rethread harness rises with the headrest: loosen the harness, lift the handle at the top of the headrest and move it until the straps are at or just below the shoulders. The buckle strap has three slots and ships in the middle one, which the manual says fits an average newborn. The waist straps can move to a narrower position for a smaller infant, and a top loop on the back of the harness shortens the straps when needed. The manual says to remove the harness covers if they interfere with chest clip placement on a smaller infant. The seat is outgrown at 30 lb, 32 in, or when the head is less than 1 in from the top of the shell.

Washing the fabrics
To remove the cover, take off the harness covers, buckle cover and infant insert, lift off the headpad, unclip the canopy, then release 3 snaps at the front, the snaps beside the handle and 4 snaps around the back. The buckle strap and waist straps must come out before the cover lifts off. Soft goods are machine washed separately in cold water on a delicate cycle with no chlorine bleach, then tumble dried for 10 to 15 minutes on low heat. The harness is wiped with mild soap and water and air dried. The manual allows 70% isopropyl alcohol to disinfect the seat.

The manual lists aircraft among its certified uses, carrier only, and says never to install the base in an aircraft. It also says to unfasten the SensorSafe chest clip during taxi, takeoff and landing and to fasten it again before lifting the carrier off the aircraft seat.

The manual says to stop using the seat after the expiration date on its date of manufacture label, or after a crash. It does not give a number of years, and the product page for this version does not either, so I would read the label under the carrier and on the base.
