The REVV maxx suits a family that wants to turn the seat toward the door for loading and keep one installation from birth through the forward-facing harness years. The trade-off is a 30.6 lb seat that its manual says must always be tethered, rear-facing included, and that is not certified for aircraft. Compared with the original REVV, it keeps children rear-facing and in the harness to higher weights and heights.

This seat covers 2 stages, and a child has to meet every limit of the stage they are in. Nuna gives it a 10-year life from the date of manufacture, so check the date label before using a hand-me-down.

How the REVV maxx rotating convertible car seat installs

Belt lock-off: True tension doors (belt lock-off). A lock-off clamps the vehicle belt so you do not have to switch the belt's retractor into its locked mode.
Recline: 5 rear-facing and 5 forward-facing recline positions (tethered). The recline angle is what keeps a young baby’s airway open, so set it before tightening the install.
Harness: No-rethread 5-point harness. Check the harness height at each growth spurt: at or below the shoulders rear-facing, at or above them forward-facing.

What to know before you live with it

Installing once, then rotating

Every installation starts the same way in the manual. Place the seat, rotate it rear-facing to reach the True Tension door, recline to position 5, hook the tether on loosely, then route the lap/shoulder belt or the lower anchor strap under the door. The lap/shoulder belt is the preferred method. Lap-only, motorized, dual retractor, inflatable and door-mounted belts cannot be used. Once tight, the seat should move less than 1 inch at the belt path. A rotate button on either side then turns the seat, and the manual warns never to travel with it in an unlocked side position.

The tether is not optional

The manual says the tether should always be used in both rear-facing and forward-facing installations, even with the vehicle belt. With the tether attached, recline positions 1 to 5 are available in each direction for the full weight range. Without it, only recline position 1 may be used. Nuna suggests loosening the tether before changing the recline and tightening it again afterward. I would find the vehicle's tether anchors and read the vehicle owner's manual for their weight limits before buying, since the REVV maxx manual sends you there for both.

Inserts and harness fit

The infant insert is for babies 5 to 11 lb and must come out at 11 lb. It can improve harness fit and recline angle for small babies. The SIP insert must be used up to 40 lb; after that it can come out once the child no longer fits comfortably between its sides. Shoulder and crotch pads stay on until the SIP insert is removed. Rear-facing, the harness must sit at or just below the shoulders; forward-facing, at or just above. The crotch buckle goes in the slot closest to, but not under, the child.

How it differs from the original REVV

The original REVV's US product page now returns a not-found error, so this comparison uses its manual. That manual lists rear-facing use at 5 to 30 lb and 18 to 34 in, and forward-facing use at 30 to 40 lb and 34 to 43 in, with 10 head support positions. It also allows a locking lap-only belt at recline position 5. The REVV maxx manual lists lap-only belts among those that cannot be used. Both manuals say to stop using the seat after 10 years, and both say the seat is not certified for aircraft.

Wash the seat cover, harness pads and infant insert by the tag on the seat cover; the infant insert wedge is spot clean only. The harness cannot be removed, so wipe it with a cloth and warm, soapy water. Do not use bleach, do not iron the covers and do not lubricate the spin mechanism.
