A 2-in-1 booster seat with 2 modes: high-back booster 40 to 120 lb, 38 to 63 in; backless booster 40 to 120 lb, 38 to 63 in.
Diono lists this seat on its US site. Buy from Diono or an authorized retailer, and confirm the exact model number before you buy.
The Diono Monterey 4DXT is a 2-in-1 booster used as a high-back or backless booster for children 40 to 120 lb and 38 to 63 in. Its manual describes a backrest width adjuster, head support height adjuster, two-stage recline and LATCH/UAS connectors. It expires eight years from the date of purchase.
It suits a family that wants a high-back booster that widens and reclines, attaches with lower anchor connectors, and later converts to backless. The trade-off is that the manual publishes no width range or seat weight. Its manual repeats the Monterey 2XT instructions almost word for word, so the published documents do not show what separates the two.

This seat covers 2 stages, and a child has to meet every limit of the stage they are in. Diono gives it a 8-year life from the date of manufacture, so check the date label before using a hand-me-down.

A child must meet every limit for the mode they use. The labels on your seat and its manual are the final word.
Every install is a fit between one seat and one vehicle. Read both manuals, and use a free inspection station if anything is unclear.

Diono does not publish a width for this seat, so measure your back seat and compare it with the seat in a store before buying.
The manual warns not to use the booster unless it is completely assembled. The head support goes into the seat back while you press the adjuster upward, and once inserted it should not be removed. The backrest hooks onto the seat bottom mounting points. To attach to the car, lay the booster on its side, press the cam lock lever, extend the LATCH/UAS straps, clip them to the lower anchors and tighten them one at a time. The whole seat bottom should sit flat, and the head support must rest against the vehicle seat back or head support.

Turn the backrest width adjuster handle on the back of the backrest to fit the child, then set the head support so the shoulder belt guide is slightly above the shoulders, at least 1 cm. Route the shoulder belt through the shoulder belt guide and the lap belt through both lap belt guides, low on the hips. The shoulder belt must not touch the neck or sit over the armrest. Pull webbing out of the retractor and let it feed back before each use, and never lock the retractor.

For backless use, remove the backrest and check the LATCH/UAS connectors are secure. The child's ears must be below the top of the vehicle seat or headrest, and if the shoulder belt does not fit correctly the stored shoulder belt guide strap must be used, with the RED guide just above the shoulder. For cleaning, detach the backrest, raise the headrest to remove its cover, undo the hook and loop strip on the seat bottom to free the backrest cover, release the seat bottom cover's elastic tabs, then machine wash separately in cold water on a gentle cycle with mild detergent, or hand wash, and dry flat away from sunlight.

No campaign in the current NHTSA child-restraint data names this model family, and I have not run a separate review for it. Check your seat’s model number and date of manufacture before use.
The manual says 40 to 120 lb (18 to 54 kg) and 38 to 63 in (97 to 160 cm) in both high-back and backless mode.
The Monterey 2XT manual gives the same 40 to 120 lb and 38 to 63 in limits and the same width adjuster and recline steps. Diono's manuals do not state a difference, so I would compare the current listings.
Yes. The manual describes a two-stage recline to match the vehicle seat. A gap behind it is acceptable as long as the head support touches the vehicle seat back or headrest.
The manual says it is expired over eight years from the date of purchase.
No. The manual states it is not certified for use in aircraft because aircraft seats do not have shoulder belts.
