A backless booster seat with one mode: backless booster 40 to 120 lb, 38 to 63 in.
Diono lists this seat on its US site. Buy from Diono or an authorized retailer, and confirm the exact model number before you buy.
The Diono Solana is a backless booster for children 40 to 120 lb and 38 to 63 inches tall whose ears are below the top of the fully raised vehicle seat or headrest. It has no LATCH connectors, uses only the vehicle lap and shoulder belt, includes a shoulder belt guide strap, and expires 8 years after purchase.
The Solana suits an older child who already fits the vehicle belt well and needs a light seat to move between cars. The trade-off is that it has no LATCH connectors and no back, so the vehicle seat or headrest must reach above the child's ears. Diono lists it at 16.9 in wide and 2.9 lb, and the Solana 2 at 18.5 in wide and 6.1 lb, and only the Solana 2 offers a LATCH version.

This seat covers one stage. Diono gives it a 8-year life from the date of manufacture, so check the date label before using a hand-me-down.

A child must meet every limit for the mode they use. The labels on your seat and its manual are the final word.

Diono does not publish a width for this seat, so measure your back seat and compare it with the seat in a store before buying.
The booster must sit flat on the vehicle seat bottom and touch the seat back. The manual allows it only where the child's ears are below the top of the vehicle seat or headrest. The lap belt goes through both lap belt guides, flat across the hips and not high over the belly, and the shoulder belt must lie flat on the shoulder without touching the neck. You tighten by pulling the shoulder belt upward. The buckle should line up with the red belt path guides; if it is pulled into the seat, choose another position. The shoulder belt must not go over the armrest.

The manual says that if the vehicle shoulder belt does not fit the child correctly, the seat must be used with the shoulder belt guide strap. It is stored under the seat cover. You seat the child with the lap and shoulder belts in place, attach the red guide to the diagonal shoulder belt and adjust the strap so the guide sits just above the shoulder. The shoulder belt should then lie flat across the shoulder and away from the neck. Leave a switchable retractor in ELR mode for booster use.

The manual stores in a pocket under the seat cover, and the manual says to take it out before washing the cover. The cover can be machine or hand washed in cold water on a gentle cycle with mild detergent, then dried flat and away from direct sunlight before re-use or storage. Do not bleach, iron or dry clean it. The shell and other parts are spot cleaned with a damp cloth, warm water and mild detergent, then towel dried. The manual also rules out solvents, harsh detergents and lubricating any part of the seat.

No campaign in the current NHTSA child-restraint data names this model family, and I have not run a separate review for it. Check your seat’s model number and date of manufacture before use.
The manual allows children who weigh 40 to 120 lb and are 38 to 63 inches tall, and only with the vehicle lap and shoulder belt.
No. Diono says the Solana has no LATCH or tether system and that the Solana 2 offers a LATCH option.
Diono lists it at 16.9 in wide, 13.2 in deep and 7.7 in tall, with a seat weight of 2.9 lb. It says its boosters fit 2-across in most cars and that each vehicle is different.
Diono lists the Solana 2 at 18.5 in wide, 16.1 in deep and 9.4 in tall, with a seat weight of 6.1 lb, and offers it with a LATCH option. Both are listed for 40 to 120 lb.
Diono says not to use it unless there is a vehicle headrest for that seating position. The manual also requires the child's ears to be below the top of the vehicle seat or headrest.
No. The manual says it is not certified for aircraft, because airplane seats do not have shoulder belts.
