The Graco GoMax is a rear-facing infant car seat for babies from 4 to 30 lb who are 32 in or less, with the top of the head at least 1 in below the top of the seat. The carrier has built-in rigid lower anchor connectors, so it installs without its base, and it expires 7 years after manufacture.
It suits parents who move the carrier between vehicles and want a lower anchor install without carrying a base. The trade-off is carrier weight: Graco lists it at 10.9 lb without the base and 16.8 lb with it. Graco lists the SnugRide SnugFit DLX, with the same 4 to 30 lb range, at 9.8 lb, so compare the two if you carry the seat often.
A research summary of Graco’s published specifications and manual, read . Not a hands-on test or a crash-safety rating.
This seat covers one stage. Graco gives it a 7-year life from the date of manufacture, so check the date label before using a hand-me-down.

| Rear-facing infant | 4 to 30 lb | Up to 32 in | Not published | Head must be at least 1 in below top of car seat |
A child must meet every limit for the mode they use. The labels on your seat and its manual are the final word.
Every install is a fit between one seat and one vehicle. Read both manuals, and use a free inspection station if anything is unclear.

Graco does not publish a width for this seat, so measure your back seat and compare it with the seat in a store before buying. It weighs 10.9 lb, which matters if you will move it between cars or carry it through an airport.
Orchid Haze, Ace.
Without the base, the carrier's built-in rigid lower anchor connectors click onto the vehicle anchors, or the vehicle belt runs through the rear-facing belt path marked with a blue label and, in most vehicles, is locked by slowly pulling the shoulder belt all the way out. With the base, use either its lower anchor attachment or the vehicle seat belt, never both at once. The base must sit at least 80% on the vehicle seat. In every method the seat should not move more than 1 in side to side or front to back at the belt path. A center seat works with the base's lower anchors only if the vehicle manual allows it and the anchor spacing is 11 in or more.
The carrier has 4 recline positions. On level ground, the bubble must sit within the blue lines; rolled towels at the vehicle seat crease may help level it. The manual warns that a seat that is too reclined can cause injury or ejection, and one that is too upright can cause breathing difficulties. Harness straps go at or just below the shoulders, with the chest clip at armpit level, and the top of the head must stay at least 1 in below the top of the seat. To change harness height, the manual says to take the child out first, then move the headrest. For low birth weight infants (the minimum is 4 lb), the crotch strap clip can go in the front slot of the seat, but not through the pad. The body support is only for infants 12 lb or less.
The handle locks in 4 positions. It must be upright when you carry the seat but can be in any position in the vehicle. Graco says the carrier fits most Graco strollers and warns never to use it with another manufacturer's stroller, so I would check Graco's compatibility chart for the exact stroller. Machine wash the pad and canopy in cold water with gentle soap on a delicate cycle and drip-dry, without bleach. The harness and lower anchor straps are surface wash only. Stop using the seat 7 years after the date of manufacture, which is on a label on the back, and replace it after any crash.
No campaign in the current NHTSA child-restraint data names this model family, and I have not run a separate review for it. Check your seat’s model number and date of manufacture before use.
The manual gives 4 to 30 lb and 32 in or less, rear-facing only. The top of the head must also be at least 1 in below the top of the car seat. Reaching any one limit means the seat is outgrown.

Yes. The manual shows a baseless install with the built-in rigid lower anchor connectors, and another with the vehicle seat belt through the blue rear-facing belt path. Either way, the seat should move less than 1 in at the belt path.

The carrier is certified for aircraft use without the base, on forward-facing aircraft seats, installed with the lap belt. The base is not certified for aircraft, and the manual says to check the airline's policy.
