Who is the KidFit Adapt Plus 2-in-1 Belt-Positioning Booster Car Seat for?
The Chicco KidFit Adapt Plus is a belt-positioning booster for children at least 4 years old and 44 to 57 in tall. It works as a high-back booster from 40 to 100 lb and as a backless booster from 40 to 110 lb. Optional LATCH holds the seat, the vehicle belt holds the child, and expiry is a dated label.
Reasons to consider it
Two modes: high-back from 40 to 100 lb and backless from 40 to 110 lb
A headrest with 10 height positions to set the shoulder belt guide
Optional quick-release LATCH that holds the booster to the vehicle
Fabrics, armrest covers included, that come off for machine washing
Things to weigh up
Chicco does not publish an expiry period in years; check the Do Not Use After label
Not certified for aircraft, since planes do not have lap-shoulder belts
The manual describes no steps for the 2 recline positions listed on the product page
If the vehicle head restraint pushes the headrest forward and cannot be moved, the manual requires backless mode
My take on the KidFit Adapt Plus 2-in-1 Belt-Positioning Booster Car Seat
The Adapt Plus suits a family that wants a high-back booster now and a backless one later, with optional LATCH. Between rides, the manual says LATCH is adequate for the empty backless booster, but the high-back booster should be buckled. Its difference from the KidFit ClearTex Plus is the fabric: Chicco describes 37.5 Technology and breathable mesh. The KidFit ClearTex Plus uses the same manual and lists the same limits and dimensions, so the choice between them comes down to the fabric.

Who the KidFit Adapt Plus 2-in-1 Belt-Positioning Booster Car Seat fits
This seat covers 2 stages, and a child has to meet every limit of the stage they are in. Check the date label on the shell before using a hand-me-down; every seat has an expiry.
High-back booster40 to 100 lb · 44 to 57 in · from 4 years
The seat’s own back and belt guide route the vehicle belt across the shoulder, and the sides give the child something to lean on when they sleep.
Backless booster40 to 110 lb · 44 to 57 in · from 4 years
Only the base is left, so the vehicle seat has to support the child’s back and head, and the belt guide sits at the hip.

How the KidFit Adapt Plus 2-in-1 Belt-Positioning Booster Car Seat installs
Lower anchors
Quick Release LATCH. Check your vehicle manual for which seating positions have anchors, and switch to the seat belt once the child passes the anchor weight limit in the manual.
Recline
2 recline positions. The recline angle is what keeps a young baby’s airway open, so set it before tightening the install.
Every install is a fit between one seat and one vehicle. Read both manuals, and use a free inspection station if anything is unclear.
Will it fit your car?
At 17 in at its widest, this seat is one of the narrower ones in its class and is a candidate for three across in many mid-size cars. It weighs 10 lb, which matters if you will move it between cars or carry it through an airport.
Check your vehicle manual for lower anchor positions and any head-restraint rules.
Rear-facing seats need front-seat room: try the install behind the driver before you commit.
Not certified for aircraft use: plan on gate-checking it or using a different seat to fly.

What to know before you live with it
How it sits in the car
The vehicle lap and shoulder belt holds the child. LATCH is optional and only holds the booster. If you use it, both connectors go on lower anchors at the standard 11 inch spacing, then the adjustment strap is pulled while you push the seat back. If you skip LATCH, the manual says to pull the strap snug so the connectors stay out of the way of the seat belt. The top tether is not used. The booster must go on a forward-facing vehicle seat with a 3-point belt, never with a lap-only belt or a belt attached to the door.
In high-back mode, the backrest has 10 height positions. The orange shoulder belt guide should sit at or just above the child's shoulders, and the child's ears must stay below the headrest. The lap belt goes under the first armrest, and both belt parts go under the armrest nearest the buckle. If the vehicle head restraint pushes the booster headrest forward, the manual says to raise or remove it, and if that is not possible, to use backless mode. In backless mode, the ears must be below the vehicle seat back or head restraint, and the shoulder positioning clip stays in use until the belt lies flat across the shoulder on its own.
Remove both cup holders first. The seat bottom cover comes off by unhooking 8 elastic loops underneath, then the foam pad comes out before washing. The backrest cover has 6 elastic loops and plastic tabs at the headrest and below the shoulder belt guides. Armrest pads lift off with a release button. The manual allows hand washing or a cold delicate machine cycle with mild detergent, then hanging to dry. The foam insert is hand rinsed. LATCH straps are sponged with warm water, with no soaps or lubricants, which may cause them to malfunction. The seat must never be used without its covers.
Chicco lists the Adapt Plus at 10 lb and 17 in x 17 in x 26 in, with 2 recline positions and 10 headrest height positions. What is specific to it is the fabric. Chicco describes 37.5 Technology, a fabric with volcanic mineral particles that it says speeds evaporation to help cool or returns infrared energy to help warm, combined with breathable mesh. The seat is an ErgoBoost seat with double layer foam padding. Two dishwasher-safe cup holders fold in when empty. These are the manufacturer's descriptions, not measurements of my own.
Is the KidFit Adapt Plus 2-in-1 Belt-Positioning Booster Car Seat recalled?
No campaign in the current NHTSA child-restraint data names this model family, and I have not run a separate review for it. Check your seat’s model number and date of manufacture before use.
KidFit Adapt Plus 2-in-1 Belt-Positioning Booster Car Seat: common questions
What are the KidFit Adapt Plus weight and height limits?
The child must be at least 4 years old and 44 to 57 in tall. High-back mode is for 40 to 100 lb and backless mode for 40 to 110 lb. The child also has to sit relatively still with the belt in place for the whole ride.
When should my child move from high-back to backless mode?
The manual says to switch when the child's ears are above the headrest, or when the vehicle head restraint pushes the booster headrest forward and cannot be moved. In backless mode the child's ears must be below the vehicle seat back or head restraint.
No. LATCH is optional and only holds the booster; the vehicle lap and shoulder belt holds the child. When the seat is empty, the manual says LATCH is adequate in backless mode, but the high-back booster should be secured with the lap-shoulder belt.
Is the KidFit Adapt Plus the same as the KidFit ClearTex Plus?
Both use the same KidFit Plus manual. The ClearTex Plus page lists 10 lb, 17 in x 17 in x 26 in, 40 to 100 lb in high-back mode, 40 to 110 lb in backless mode and quick-release LATCH, with ClearTex fabric in place of the Adapt fabric.

Before you buy
Weigh and measure your child. The limits above are the manufacturer’s, and a child has to meet all of them for the mode they will use.
Confirm the exact version. Colors, retail exclusives and model numbers change limits more often than you would expect; Chicco lists 2 colors of this seat.
Read the manual before you buy, not after. It is linked above and holds the fit rules, the install methods and the expiry.
Check recalls by model number and date of manufacture, and register the seat with Chicco so you hear about the next one.
