My take on the KidFit ClearTex Plus
The KidFit ClearTex Plus offers high-back and backless booster configurations. Its value depends on belt fit and the child’s ability to stay positioned, not simply on having two modes. Check the manual revision carefully: the linked 2025+ guide uses a 44-inch minimum, while older versions may differ.
A booster comparison begins with a different question from a harnessed-seat comparison: can the child maintain the required position for the entire ride? A higher maximum weight does not answer that question. Check belt routing, head support, and your vehicle’s seating position together.

The booster works in high-back or backless mode on a forward-facing vehicle seat with a lap and shoulder belt, which always restrains the child. LATCH connectors are optional and only hold the booster in place. The most important check is belt position: lap belt flat and snug on the thighs, shoulder belt across the middle of the shoulder and chest.
High-back mode with the vehicle lap and shoulder belt
Use when: Child is 40-100 lb, 44-57 in, at least 4 years old and ears are below the booster headrest
- The booster backrest sits against the vehicle seat back, and the vehicle head restraint does not push the booster headrest forward (raise or remove it if possible; otherwise use backless mode if the child fits it)
- The lap belt and shoulder belt both pass under the armrests, with the lap belt across the child's thighs
- The shoulder belt runs through the orange shoulder belt guide, below the guide clip, and the guide is at or just slightly above the child's shoulders
- If LATCH is not used, the LATCH strap is pulled snug so the connectors do not interfere with the seat belt

Backless mode with the vehicle lap and shoulder belt
Use when: Child is 40-110 lb, 44-57 in, at least 4 years old and ears are below the vehicle seat back or vehicle head restraint
- The child sits with their back against the vehicle seat back
- The lap belt and shoulder belt both pass under the armrests, with the lap belt across the child's thighs
- The shoulder belt passes through the shoulder positioning clip, set at or slightly above the child's shoulder
- The clip stays in use until the seat belt naturally lies flat across the center of the child's shoulder

LATCH connectors (optional, either mode)
Use when: The vehicle seating position has lower anchors at the standard 11 in (28 cm) spacing
- Both LATCH connectors are attached to the vehicle lower anchor bars; the top tether anchor is not used
- The LATCH adjustment strap is pulled while pushing back on the seat bottom so the booster is snug against the vehicle seat back
- The lap and shoulder belt is still used on the child, because the lower anchors restrain only the booster
- Removal uses the LATCH release handle (or the loops on the LATCH straps)

Fit checks before every ride
- Use only if the child is at least 4 years old, weighs 40-110 lb (18-50 kg), is 44-57 in (112-145 cm) tall, can sit relatively still in the same position for the whole ride, and keeps the lap and shoulder belt properly positioned every time (p. 4)
- High-back mode is only for children 40-100 lb (18-45.3 kg), 44-57 in tall, at least 4 years old, whose ears are below the headrest; a child who is too small needs a different seat such as a forward-facing harness or convertible seat (pp. 16-17)
- Backless mode is only for children 40-110 lb (18-50 kg), 44-57 in tall, at least 4 years old, whose ears are below the vehicle seat (pp. 18-19)
- High-back mode: the child's ears must be below the booster headrest; if the ears are above it, the manual directs use of backless mode (p. 38)
- Backless mode: the child's ears must be below the vehicle seat back or vehicle head restraint; if they are above it with the head restraint fully extended, the manual directs use of high-back mode (p. 56)
- High-back mode: the shoulder belt guide must be at or just slightly above the child's shoulders; the backrest height is adjusted to achieve this (pp. 32, 38)

- Fabric
- Fabrics may be spot-cleaned, hand washed with mild soap and water, or machine washed in cold water on a delicate cycle with mild detergent, then hung to dry. The foam pad is removed from the seat bottom fabric before washing and must be put back before refitting. The booster must never be used without its fabric cover or armrest fabric covers.
- Belts and straps
- No harness. LATCH connector hardware and straps are sponge cleaned with warm water and air dried; they cannot be replaced. No soaps or lubricants on the LATCH connectors or straps, as this may cause them to malfunction.
- Plastic parts
- Sponge clean with warm water and mild soap, then towel dry. No bleach, solvents or household cleaners, which may weaken plastics and straps.
- Also note
- Foam insert: hand rinse and air dry. Both cup holders must be removed before the seat bottom fabric can come off. When not installed, store the booster in a dry place away from heat, dust, humidity and direct sunlight.

How long does the KidFit ClearTex Plus last?
Do not use the booster beyond the "Do Not Use After" date on the manufacturer's label on the underside of the booster. No number of years is stated. The booster must be replaced after any crash, even without visible damage, and a second-hand booster with an unknown history should never be used. (manual pp. 9, 11, 12)
Can you use the KidFit ClearTex Plus on a plane?
Not certified for aircraft use, because aircraft do not have lap and shoulder belts to secure the child. (manual p. 66)
Flying with a car seat: what to checkWhat to consider day to day
Start with the belt, not the maximum weight
The vehicle belt restrains the child. Check where the lap and shoulder portions sit and whether the child can maintain that position for the whole journey. Falling asleep, leaning to reach something, or sliding forward can change the practical picture.
Treat backless mode as another fit check
Removing the back changes the support and belt-guidance arrangement. Review the vehicle’s head support, the position of the child’s ears and the manual’s routing requirements again. A high-back setup that works does not automatically establish a suitable backless setup.
Read the label before relying on a review
The product name alone does not identify every revision. The current manual-directory link and the PDF’s printed revision date do not use the same year. Match the actual model and its supplied instructions before transferring the limits on this page to a seat you own.

- The retail listing is matched by Chicco model number 00079627120070, which Chicco lists for the current KidFit ClearTex Plus. Do not transfer these limits to another KidFit version, such as Zip, Zip Air or Adapt.

KidFit ClearTex Plus: common questions
What size child is the reviewed version for?
The linked 2025+ manual gives 40-100 lb in high-back mode and 40-110 lb in backless mode. Both use 44-57 inches and a minimum age of four years, plus head-support and seating-behavior requirements. These minimums are not a recommendation to move out of a harness at four.
Does the KidFit have a five-point harness?
No. This is a belt-positioning booster. It uses the vehicle’s lap-and-shoulder belt to restrain the child.
Can I use it with a lap-only belt?
No. The reviewed instructions require a lap-and-shoulder belt. A lap-only seating position does not meet that requirement.
What do the lower anchors do?
They secure the booster according to its manual. They do not replace the lap-and-shoulder belt around the child.
Can this booster be used on an airplane?
It is not for aircraft use because it requires a lap-and-shoulder belt. Typical aircraft passenger seats have a lap belt. See the FAA guidance before planning travel with any restraint.
Why do some listings show a 38-inch minimum?
Older KidFit versions may have different limits. This research entry follows Chicco’s linked 2025+ manual, which gives 44 inches. Use the instructions and labels that apply to your own model; do not choose the lower number from another listing.
